Should You Monitor your Kids’ Computer Time?

Should you monitor your kids computer time? That depends. Do you trust everyone else? I mean, are you okay with just anyone being able to talk to your kids online any time they want to? Do you know your kids friends online? What about their screen names or email addresses? Is there a predator in your childs life? Could you tell?

If you are reading this article then you must have some doubt. Here is another issue. You think that you have given your children their own email address but did you know they can setup their own email address without your help? Really, think about it. When it comes to computers kids tend to know more than what we give them credit for.

I can speak from my own past. I actually helped a very close friend of mine setup some software on a computer that his son had. And I saw his face when we discovered his son had a second and more public email address. And when we logged in to the account, I saw his heart drop when he read the emails and saw the images that had been sent to his son.

What would you do if you discovered what my friend had seen? Would it be time for confrontation and groundings? Or embracing a son and explaining the issues at hand. It depends on the circumstances but a lot of the time embracing brings two together and the grounding seems to push apart.

So what would you do? Your kids do have rights but as long as you are the parent your authority means more. Take control now.
